Storing Food Without Plastic In Refrigerator – Health a Bliss
I know going Plastic Free is difficult, especially when we are surrounded with all sorts of Easy to Use and Stylish Plastic Stuff.
It was a difficult switch for me as well. Especially when I had to look out for options for storing my Veggies and other stuff in the Refrigerator.
Plastic Containers and Plastic Bags are the most Easy and Comfortable options for storing your stuff in the Refrigerator and it can be a difficult switch. It has taken me a lot of time too.
But I’ve mostly phased out my Plastic Food Storage Containers and Bags in favor of Glass, Metal or Silicon options. The best part about these being that most things can be put directly in a microwave or oven to re-heat.
Storing your food without Plastic in Refrigerator and Freezer :
Storing Fruits & Vegetables : I store my Veggies like Tomatoes, Lady Finger, Cauliflower and fruits like Grapes, Mangoes to name a few in a Cotton Cloth Bag which I got stitched from my tailor.
The Vegetables and Fruits stay fresh f or 2 to 3 days in these cotton bags.
Storing Leftovers : I store my leftover food mostly in Ceramic or Glass Containers as they can directly be used in microwave for re-heating. I even use Steel Containers for the same.
Storing food in freezer : I store Semolina (Suji), All Purpose Flour (Maida), Dry Fruits to mention a few in the Freezer as they last for long. I store them in Steel, Glass or Silicon Containers.
Yes, all these three can be used to store stuff in Freezer as well.
Note : Always allow the contents to thaw gently. I wouldn’t put them directly from the freezer into the microwave. And leave some room at the top for expansion.
Making Ice : I also use Silicon Ice Tray instead of regular Plastic Ice Tray for making Ice.
I hope I was able to help you with the above mentioned ways of going Plastic Free.
